About Rawle Alkins
Rawle Alkins is a powerfully built wing with good explosiveness and defensive potential who was slowed as a sophomore by a foot injury that caused him to miss much of the preseason and several regular season games. A consensus top-20 prospect in the high school class of 2016, Alkins emerged as a regular starter for Sean Millers Wildcats as a true freshman averaging 10.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game to earn a spot on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team posting some impressive offensive showings using his strength to bully his way to the rim, finishing in transition, and running hot from the perimeter. Alkins declared for the 2017 NBA Draft and attended the Draft Combine before opting to return to school. He put together an uneven showing as a sophomore, but finished the year averaging 13.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game to earn Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 honors.
Measured 64.25 in shoes with a solid 68.75 wingspan and thick 217-pound frame at the 2018 NBA Draft Combine. Has nice straight-line speed and impressive explosiveness with a head of steam.
Played a key rotation role for an Arizona team with no shortage of talent. Finished as the Wildcats third leading scorer doing much of his damage off the ball in catch and shoot situations. Streaky from the perimeter. Got some opportunities to operate out of ball screen actions, but still has a lot of room to grow as a shot creator. Made his most efficient contributions using his strength and athleticism in transition and crashing the offensive glass.
Defensive Analysis
Promising defender whose combination of strength and quickness allowed him to excel for stretches of last season when dialed in. Still developing his awareness off the ball and ability to make the most of his tools consistently. Capable of more as a rebounder. Was often a step late in spots last season, but has the length and aggressiveness to bother shooters when he is in good position. Could grow into a multi-positional defender if his game and approach continue to mature.
